13th annual Artists against AIDS art show is set

The 13th Annual Artists Against AIDS Silent Art Auction benefiting the Tarrant County AIDS Interfaith Network is set for Saturday, Oct. 20, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center, 1309 Gendy Street (at Camp Bowie Boulevard, across Lancaster Street from the Amon Carter Museum).

Jennifer Casler Price is honorary chair for the event, and Daniel Blagg and Robert McAn are featured artists.

The event, featuring a selection of art from local and regional artists, will include food, music, an open bar with wine and beer and a silent auction.

There will also be a short live auction featuring a select few artworks.

Tickets are $50. Pier One Imports is the presenting sponsor for the annual fundraiser, which has raised more than $270,000 over the past 12 years.

Artwork included in the exhibit will also be judged, with an award of $2,000 to the winner. The judge will be Dr. Frances Colpitt, the Deedie Potter Rose Chair of Art History at Texas Christian University and a corresponding editor for Art in America.

Honorary chair Jennifer Casler Price has been curator for Asian and non-Western art at the Kimbell Art Museum since 1993. Previously, she was a curatorial assistant in the department of Asian art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York for three years.

Price has curated 16 exhibitions during her tenure at the Kimbell, the most recent being “Drama and Desire: Japanese Paintings from the Floating World, 1690-1850.

Daniel Blagg, one of two featured artists for this year’s event, lives and works in Fort Worth. He has works on view at Artspace 111 in Fort Worth, and has recently had works shown at the Kidder Smith Gallery in Boston, the Galveston Art Center and the Dallas Visual Art Center. Pieces of his art are also held in many corporate, private and museum collections.

Robert McAn, this year’s second featured artist, also lives and works in Fort Worth. His artwork has been included in several exhibitions at William Campbell Contemporary Art in Fort Worth, the REM Gallery in San Antonio and the Arlington Museum of Art.

McAn also curated the recent installations “Show Offs” and “Show Offs II” at William Campbell Contemporary Art, and his work is included in numerous private and corporate collections.

In addition to his work as an artist and curator, McAn is membership and special events manager at the Kimbell.

Tarrant County AIDS Interfaith is a non-profit organization that works to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of people living with HIV/AIDS in Tarrant County and seven surrounding rural counties.
