Benefit shows across DFW this weekend

Dallas and Fort Worth are reaching out this weekend with various shows around the metroplex featuring not only fantastic music, but that benefit worthy causes as well.

Friday:

Local bands Slick Lady Six, Minimus, and Triple Six Shooters are headlining a Halloween-tinged event in order to "Give Cancer a Real Scare." Hosted by Kat Foster, a cancer survivor herself, proceeds from the evening will go the American Cancer Society and Thyroid Cancer Awareness (thyca.org). The show will take place at Tomcats Deep Ellum, with a $10 cover. Lineup and set list posted below:

  • 8:00 p.m. - John Chaos
  • 8:30 p.m. - Undeclared
  • 9:00 p.m. - StumbleBums
  • 9:30 p.m. - Sin Serum
  • 10:00 p.m. - Dark Sol
  • 10:30 p.m. - Dead Sea Souls
  • 11:00 p.m. - The Uncontrollable Urge
  • 11:30 p.m. - Triple Six Shooters
  • 12:15 a.m. - Minimus
  • 1:00 a.m. - Slick Lady Six

Saturday

The Granada Theater will host the Carter Albrecht Memorial Concert. The night is meant to honor the memory of the Dallas music legend with proceeds going to the Carter Albrecht Music Foundation. The concert, featuring the Old 97's and Sorta, will be recorded with downloads available at Pegasus News, donations of which will also go to the foundation. Tickets are available for $30 each. The evening will be hosted by The Hard Line’s Mike Rhyner and will also feature remarks from Carter’s father, Ken Albrecht.

Lineup: Old 97's, Sorta, The Drams, Salim Nourallah, The Slack, Marcus Stripman, Sarah Jaffe, Stephen Collins and Deadman, Reed Easterwood.

Also on Saturday the S.P.E.A.K. Project will take place at the Ridglea Theater in Fort Worth. In what will hopefully be a yearly event, S.P.E.A.K. brings together non-profit organizations and bands to raise awareness of STDs and drug abuse. The concert admission is $10.

Lineup: Black Tie Dynasty, P.P.T., The Burning Hotels, The Cut*Off, DJ sets by Prince William, The Fate Lions, Kevin Aldridge of Chatterton, and Andrew Carter.
