DALLAS Tom "Spiceman" Spicer, known for selling locally grown specialty produce at his Fitzhugh storefront Spiceman's F.M. 1410, is also an accomplished musician -- evidence of which can be seen on Saturday night at Urbano Restaurant and Paninoteca.
Spiceman, who describes his sound as influenced by his native Creole New Orleans, Afro-Cuban, Caribbean, and Latin, will be playing his acoustic bass guitar at a show at 7:30 p.m. Joining him will be Dave Gilden, who plays a cora (an African harp). The show will take place on Urbano's patio.
Find out more about the music at his Web site or at Dave's Web site.

You know this is the first week in a long time that Kim Pirce has not posted news on the Dmn's EATS blog of just what the Spiceman would be selling on the weekend. Do you think she saw the pic you are using and got scared off? It scares me a bit and I remember Tom from a way, way back.

that's OK, miz - he got his weekly mention in the big story on "shopping local in dallas". as for this photo, i like that tom's staring right into the camera, with a look that says, "don't even think about trying to steal my funny-looking guitar." so you knew about him back in the day? had he already started selling produce?
