The Dallas County Elections Department will conduct, canvass and notify the city of DeSoto of the results. This is not a city election, DeSoto City Secretary Anell Shipman said. Dallas County is handling the election because of the state amendments and the two propositions originated from petitions circulated throughout the city and certified by the county. Dallas County Commissions voted to put the two propositions on the ballot this summer.

DeSoto is one of four cities in Dallas County to decide on the legal sale of beer and wine and mixed beverages in restaurants.

Proposition No. 1 reads: “The legal sale of beer and wine for off-premises consumption only.” Proposition No. 2 reads: “The legal sale of mixed beverages in restaurants by food and beverage certificate holders only.”

Mesquite voters will also decide on the same two propositions. Cockrell Hill voters will decide for or against Proposition 1 and Duncanville voters are set to vote on Proposition No. 2.
