Former Mayor Ron Kirk joins group lobbying for deregulation of electricity market

The COMPETE coalition has announced that Ron Kirk, former Dallas mayor and a partner with Vinson & Elkins LLP, is joining COMPETE as its new co-chair. Kirk will lead COMPETE alongside former Republican Senator Don Nickles.

COMPETE is a coalition of electricity stakeholders that support competitive electricity markets. Kirk's announcement coincides with COMPETE's launch of a major advertising campaign to educate consumers and policymakers about the benefits of competitive markets.

The announcement comes at a time when elected officials in several states are considering limiting or rolling back policies that had been moving electricity markets toward competition for more than a decade. Kirk, already earning his fee, stressed that doing so would be a serious mistake.

We need MORE competition in electricity markets. Thanks to groups like this, we'll never have to worry about electricity actually getting cheaper.

Kirk was one of TXU's highest paid lobbyists in the months preceding TXU's acquisition by the buyout firms led by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. and TPG Capital. He's a corporate shill with a capital SHILL.

Oh, wait -- he's for the toll road in a floodway too.

Say no more.

So much for Kirk ever being elected as a Democrat ever again.

Hey! That comment denigrates weasles, take it back. Weasles have way more integrity than politicians, they also happen to be very flexible physically allowing them to turn around in extremely confined spaces. Weasles can be very affectionate pets and loving companions.
