Seagoville’s “Blaze the Dragon” wins D-FW-wide mascot competition
The results of a D/FW-wide high school mascot challenge came this Sunday with a stunning victory for Seagoville High School and their mascot, "Blaze the Dragon."
Coming in second was North Mesquite High School's "Spirit" (the Stallion), followed by Lewisville High's "Big John" — who is apparently a "fighting farmer."
The competition, sponsored by Capital One, was held at NorthPark Mall in Dallas last month, where the 13 mascots duked it out. A two-week voting period ensued, and now the athletic departments of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will receive $5,000, $2,500 and $1,000, respectively.
Though labeling places or events with corporate names is really lame and annoying (Dr Pepper Star Center, Smirnoff Music Centre, and so on), the Capital One Mascot Bowl is a pretty neat national event, with mascots from college universities competing for glory.
