Seagoville’s “Blaze the Dragon” wins D-FW-wide mascot competition

0

The results of a D/FW-wide high school mascot challenge came this Sunday with a stunning victory for Seagoville High School and their mascot, "Blaze the Dragon."

The event hoped to raise mascot awareness.

The event hoped to raise mascot awareness.

Coming in second was North Mesquite High School's "Spirit" (the Stallion), followed by Lewisville High's "Big John" — who is apparently a "fighting farmer."

The competition, sponsored by Capital One, was held at NorthPark Mall in Dallas last month, where the 13 mascots duked it out. A two-week voting period ensued, and now the athletic departments of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will receive $5,000, $2,500 and $1,000, respectively.

Though labeling places or events with corporate names is really lame and annoying (Dr Pepper Star Center, Smirnoff Music Centre, and so on), the Capital One Mascot Bowl is a pretty neat national event, with mascots from college universities competing for glory. Visit www.capitalonebowl.com solely for the chance to see a bear doing back flips.
