Argyle ISD holds meeting on “dirty dancing”
More stories about Argyle ISD
ARGYLE Argyle school officials hosted a public forum on Monday night to discuss inappropriate dancing at homecoming and compliance with school's dress code.
The meeting was called after many students chose to leave the homecoming dance rather than comply with the dress code and dance appropriately.
After the administration explained their position on the issues and listened to input from students and parents, school officials announced that a new Winter dance will be held in December.
"This dance will provide the students with an additional opportunity to comply with the dress code and our standards for appropriate dancing," said Superintendent Jason Ceyanes.
Dr. Ceyanes said that no additional modifications will be made to the dress code until the students can demonstrate compliance with the district's current standards.
"I maintain that our current standards are reasonable, but we are willing to have an intelligent debate on the topic," said Dr. Ceyanes. "This meeting sets the tone for the intelligent debate and discussion on these extremely volatile issues."
