MCKINNEY The McKinney Performing Arts Center (MPAC), located in the restored Collin County Courthouse, was named Best Community Spirit project by the Texas Downtown Association (TDA).
"We are thrilled that the McKinney Performing Arts Center has been recognized as a standard of excellence," said Director of MPAC Dave Taylor. "In our first year of operation, over 33,000 guests attended more than 400 scheduled activities for great entertainment and also stayed to shop and dine in Historic Downtown McKinney."
According to TDA, the Best Community Spirit Award recognizes an exceptional project that positively impacts downtown revitalization efforts and has the support and funding of both the public and private sectors. The award was announced at the annual Texas Downtown Revitalization Conference in Fort Worth on Oct. 18. Representatives from Architexas, the firm that oversaw the restoration of MPAC, made a presentation at the conference.
Judging for the awards took place in Austin. The jury panel included the following representatives: Charles Betts, Downtown Austin Alliance; Kent Collins, Centro Partners; Kaye Northcott, Texas Co-op Power; Julian Read, GCI Read-Poland; and Jan Soechting, New Braunfels Main Street Program.
