MANSFIELD Mansfield Mayor Barton Scott is going on a rampage Saturday, hitting the streets to get 930 signatures on a petition to get an ordinance going that limits the places where sex offenders can reside.
He's doing this because he hasn't been able to persuade his peers on the city council to support him. They perhaps more wisely realize that an ordinance that restrictive would attract the attention of groups like the ACLU, resulting in expensive lawsuits and such. But your everyday citizen might not be so rational. Especially when Mansfield Mayor Barton Scott says things like, "We will basically put out the welcome mat for pedophiles."
Odds seem good that this is all going to cost Mansfield some money down the road in litigation.

I happen to support the mayor, T.G. Many people cannot help but cower when you just mention the name ACLU. There is no need to fear them! No North Texas city that have passed similar ordinances have ever been attacked by the rogue ACLU. (Richardson, for example.) I cannot believe that you are so fearful, T.G., of a club of sexual deviants. I think protecting my daughter is rational!
