Dallas zookeeper goes to foreign country to observe animals not in cages

One supposes that it's probably a good thing, a beneficial and enlightening thing, that Elana Kopel, 33, an employee at the Dallas Zoo, went to Madagascar to observe animals in the wild. Her trip was an Earthwatch Institute research expedition whose long-term goal is to help lemurs survive the effects of logging and natural disasters that have destroyed their habitat. Although it's not clear how lemurs can be helped by volunteers trying to rout them out and study their "diets, activity levels, locations in trees, and social interactions." Anyway, Kopel, whose trip was funded by some kind of "fellowship" procured by zoo curators and managers, came away from her trip gratified to see that lemurs sleep a lot not just at the zoo but also in the wild.
