Crime Watch 1177 to meet November 8 — Finally
WHITE ROCK HILLS Longtime readers know that the crime situation and lack of information on available resources was an early inspiration for our neighborhood coverage at Pegasus News.
About a year ago, foolishly thinking we were almost out of the startup financial woods with Our Little Company, April and I volunteered to head up the neighborhood crime watch for our neighborhood, known as "1177." But, we found ourselves buried in the task of digging to keep the company alive and totally dropped the ball.
Fortunately, our neighbor, Eileen Moore, who lives on Sweetwater has picked things up in a big way. The crime watch has an email and is holding its first meeting at S.S. Conner on Thursday the 8th.
According to a flier circulated in the neighborhood, the meeting will cover the importance of neighborhood watch and the benefits of a cleaner, crime-free neighborhood. Representatives of the Ferguson Road Initiative and the DPD will be on hand to update on current crime trends and prevention methods. Other crime watches will share success stories. Residents will be able to register their homes and vehicles with the crime watch. The group will be seeking block captains for each street.
I can't stress enough what a positive step this is -- our neighborhood is the last of the single-family developments as you go East from White Rock Lake towards Buckner Boulevard. Crime is disproportionately high and leads to bizarre trespassings and constant "helicopters over the house again."
April and I will be there. I hope you will be too.
Mike is a resident of the 1177 and a member of the Ferguson Road Initiative.

I know I'm going. Two of my neighbors asked me about this at different times. We are all very pleased with this announcement.

Thanks for the posting. I am ready to put up my best fight to make a difference here in #1177 - I hope many other residents will join in to create a unified community and force. BTW - Let's work on a name other than 1177 shall we? I have heard this development is "Eastwood." First things first, let's get up and running.

I like Eastwood. Evokes Dirty Harry. And there's a band in town that we could probably get to play a party.
I think that a name other than 1177 is a priority. People don't feel like they belong to numbers. Names are better...

You're right, Mike. People do affiliate more with names than numbers.
Eastwood is our Subdivision's name. However, there is another neighborhood in town that has taken it!!! (http://www.neighborhoodlink.com/dalla...)
They actually are in the Dixon Branch area (Peavy, Lake Gardens, Easton are boundaries). Let's have a vote for a new name.

Thanks for the info, barlowme.
After hearing from Eileen after this posting, I'm in agreement that 1177 should stay the name for a while. There have been so many changes, stops and starts prior to this -- one of which was certainly my fault -- that I don't think we really want to do anything that has any chance of confusing people. Especially after tonight's great turnout (which I'll report on by this weekend at latest).
