Randal Pinkett: Rhodes Scholar

Dr. Randal Pinkett succeeded where numerous others have failed - in very high-profile fashion - by emerging at the top of the heap on Donald Trump's smash-hit reality show, The Apprentice.

With that kind of challenge behind him - and after actually helming a Trump enterprise - Pinkett should have no trouble keynoting a conference dubbed "Move Beyond the Dream."

The DFW African American Professionals Conference is being co-hosted by the Dallas County Community College District's Cedar Valley College and Tarrant County College's South Campus. The cost to attend is $159 for both the Thursday (Nov. 8) Jazz Networking reception and the Friday (Nov. 9) conference and workshops - or you can attend only the Jazz evening for a mere $25 and network to your heart's content. All events will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn in Duncanville.

Focusing on the importance of economic and professional development of African-Americans, conference program director Felicia Cook encourages area business leaders and entrepreneurs to attend so they can benefit from the experiences of Dr. Pinkett and the other speakers. Those scheduled to speak include Darryl Thornton ("Repositioning Your Career"); CiCi Rojas ("Working With the Hispanic Market"); Victor Vital ("Legal Issues for Small or Emerging Businesses"}; Julie Niehoff ("Understanding How E-Mail Marketing Can Work for You"); Andre Johnson ("Business and Career Success: From Dreams to Reality"); Sherrye Willis ("Is It Profitable to Do Business With Faith-Based and Nonprofits?"); and Dr. Don Blair ("Managing Job-Related Stress").

Pinkett, who will speak at lunch on Friday, will talk about his chairmanship of BCT Partners, a multi million-dollar management, technology and policy consulting services firm based in Newark, N.J. Dr. Pinkett's second book, Black Faces in White Places, is due for release in 2008. (Oh, yeah - and he's a Rhodes Scholar, too, with a Ph.D. from MIT Media Laboratory.)
