Mexican trucks allowed in U.S. interior Sept. 6; drivers required to speak English

A story in the Star-Telegram states that commercial truck and bus drivers are required by law, since 1971, to speak English.

With the coming of interstate Mexican drivers in the United States as of Sept. 6, John Hill, head of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, said that the administration is really “going to crack down it.”

“We have found people in violation of this for a number of years, and we’re working feverishly to correct it,” said Hill.

U.S. commercial drivers going into the Mexican interior, as part of the reciprocal agreement, will have to speak Spanish.
