Semi-obscure Presidential candidate Duncan Hunter wins Texas Republican straw poll in Fort Worth
FORT WORTH With their first straw poll on Saturday, Texas Republicans established themselves as ornery xenophobes by going with Republican presidential hopeful Duncan Hunter, a California congressman whose main claim to fame is his hard line on illegal immigrants and his infatuation with the idea of building a security fence across the U.S.-Mexico border.
Only 3,000 people showed up -- way less than the 10,000 or so that were hyped, and they gave few votes to any of the established front-runners, with Fred Thompson -- who has yet to announce he's running for President -- coming in second and local guy U.S. Rep. Ron Paul coming in third.
