Forget the Green Line: DART needs to invest in more parking
Being a mostly in-town guy, I was shocked this morning to hear some of our staffers grousing about their two-hour-plus rides in through the bad weather today -- doubly so because they are avid DART riders.
Turns out that the Park-and-Ride's at Parker and George Bush totally fill up well before 8:30 AM. And for people who don't live within walking distance, no park means no ride.
Our erstwhile riders guesstimate about 1,000 spaces at Parker and slightly more at George Bush.
DART does offer some suggestions for those who can't find parking, but our folks say that the alternate is generally full too and the others are far enough out of the way to eliminate the time savings.
Clearly, commuters are using DART. Seems strange not to invest in something as (relatively) inexpensive as parking lots before expanding further.

The Arapaho Rd lot filled up, too, until they extended the line to Parker Rd. Now there's plenty of parking at Arapaho station. The effort should go into extending DART even farther north, not adding more parking to the current northern terminals.

Good point edsops. I'd still like to see some demographic numbers to prove out that theory-- There's a limit to how far North they can go. But it's definitely a viable alternative theory.

well, those places north would have to JOIN dart for that to happen. maybe your employees would be better served if they moved out of foreclosure land and into the big city
