Mug shot of Willie Van Ross, 22.

Officers arrived and found the victim, Robert Gandy, 57, lying on the floor inside apartment #4509. That victim had been shot in the leg and also appeared to have been severely beaten about the head. The victim was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital, where he remains in Intensive Care.

Detectives interviewed witnesses and family members of the victim and learned, from the victim’s daughter, 20, that she and her boyfriend, later identified as the suspect, had been involved in a domestic altercation inside of the apartment at approximately 7:30 a.m. The victim’s daughter advised that at one point, the victim attempted to intervene on her behalf and confronted the suspect. At that time, the suspect and victim became involved in a physical altercation which escalated after the suspect produced a handgun and shot the victim in the leg.

According to the victim’s daughter, the suspect then shot the victim a second time before repeatedly beating the victim about the head with his hands and feet. The suspect fled the scene in the suspect vehicle, described as a green Pontiac or Chevrolet (no license plate available).

Fort Worth Police have issued a warrant for the arrest of the suspect, identified as WILLIE VAN ROSS, black male, date of birth 09-09-84, in connection with this violent offense. VAN ROSS is wanted for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the suspect is asked to contact Fort Worth Police (817) 392-4330 or call Crime Stoppers (817) 469-TIPS (8477). Callers can remain anonymous.
