Movie Tavern opens Fort Worth Hulen Mall location on Friday
The Movie Tavern crew are grand-opening what they consider to be their flagship location this Friday, Sept. 7 at Fort Worth's Hulen Mall.
The Movie Tavern at Ridgmar Mall has been in operation since 2001, but in contrast to that operation the new enterprise will feature ten full-size screens along with full bar and restaurant service from your theater seat, where patrons can kick back in high-backed leather-rocker comfort and simply press a button to summon their personal serving thrall, who will replenish their supply of grog and comestibles.
Mixed drinks, beer and wine will be on tap (figuratively speaking), and the menu includes "chef-prepared" entrees (as opposed to "busboy prepared entrees," one supposes) to include chopped salads, appetizers, hand-tossed pizzas, signature sandwiches, black angus burgers and (as it says right here in this press release) "delectable desserts."
The first word in the venue's name is "Movie," so what sort of movies can patrons expect? Well... first-run ones, it turns out, accompanied by DTS digital sound. Furthermore, once you've seen all ten of the movies (is this even humanly possible?) there's an outdoor patio configured for live musical performances; a restaurant-style lobby and full bar equipped with plasma-screen TVs for viewing of sporting events and other select programming; and a life-size Roman Colosseum for the weekly presidential candidate vs. lion fights. (O.K., I made that last part up, but wouldn't it be cool?)
The Movie Tavern folks currently operate ten theater locations (including the Hulen Mall one opening Friday), and they're shooting to open another eleven by the end of 2008.
Looks like they're gonna need more chefs.

OK, I was wrong. After a Saturday visit, it didn't get better, it got worse. Great concept, but they have A LOT of kinks to work out before I will ever go back. I'm going to stick to the Ridgmar Mall location. Grade C-
