UNT hosts Music for Peace concert benefitting the Shropshire Foundation

0

The Shropshire Foundation is known for bringing music as a healing force to children in countries shattered by war. The Concert Hall at the University of North Texas is known for bringing talented musical performers to the stage.

Put these two together and you'll come up with Music for Peace, a concert benefiting the Shropshire Foundation. The event will feature performances by jazz and classically-oriented faculty members including guitarist Fred Hamilton, drummer Ed Soph, bassist Lynn Seaton, pianist Pamela Mia Paul, piccolo-ist (?) Mary Karen Clardy, harpist Jaymee Haefner, percussionist Christopher Deane, flautist Terri Sundberg, euphonium player Brian Bowman, violinits Julia Bushkova and - a special guest performer from Italy - pianist Agnese Toniutti.

In addition to the music, attendees will hear from Shropshire Foundation founder Liz Shropshire with a slide show demonstrating the foundation's work with children involving music education and performances.

The concert is scheduled for Thursday evening, Sept. 13 at 8 p.m. in the UNT Music Building at Avenue C and Chestnut Street. There's no cost to attend, but donations for the Shropshire Foundation will be accepted, and if you can't bring yourself to siphon off a couple bucks for musicians helping kids, then "bah, humbug" to you, too, pal.

For further information contact associate professor of music Terri Sundberg at 940-565-3756.
