UPDATEDx3: FBI seeking information on armored car robbery in Lakewood on Wednesday

Masked men carrying semi-automatic rifles robbed an armored car at the Compass Bank at 1824 Abrams Road.

— The FBI is seeking the public's assistance for information concerning an armored car robbery which occurred Wednesday morning outside of the Compass Bank at 1824 Abrams Road in Dallas.

Preliminary investigation indicates a Loomis Armored Car arrived at the Compass Bank at approximately 9:00 a.m. As the guards exited their vehicle, a blue van stopped near the armored car, two masked men exited the van, and approached the guards. The two men were armed with what were described as semi-automatic rifles, and were dressed in black. After obtaining a large amount of cash, the robbers re-entered the blue van and exited the bank parking lot heading south.

A short time after the robbery occurred, a blue van, believed to have been used by the robbers, was located at 6121 Worth Street, the Lakewood Public Library. It was determined that the van had been reported stolen approximately two weeks ago.

Initial investigation indicates that three persons may be involved in this robbery. Descriptions of the robbers are not available at this time.

The FBI is offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the robbers.

The FBI and Dallas Police Department continue to vigorously investigate this incident. It is requested that anyone with information concerning this robbery contact the FBI at telephone number 972-559-5000, or the Dallas Police Department at 214-671-3584.

UPDATE: Loomis has offered an additional $25,000 reward, which added to the FBI reward totals $45,000, whoo-hoo.

UPDATE: Two men are being held for questioning by FBI agent in Van Horn, 2 hours east of El Paso.

UPDATE: No wonder authorities offered such a large reward for info: the total take on the robbery was over $600,000, if you count the cash (in Federal Reserve bands) recovered from the trunks of both the Mercedes and the Cadillac that the suspects were attempting to get to Vegas in. And apparently it was their bad driving habits that undid them. Read on.

Pretty embarassing - stealing thousands of dollars, and getting caught because you made an illegal turn or something.
