Garland high school bans student from wearing skull t-shirt

12

— In yet another example of the man sticking it to the little guy, Zach Librach was recently sent home from North Garland High School for wearing a t-shirt with a picture of a skull on it. Turns out this is a violation of the school's dress code policy, which prohibits anything referencing death, among other things.

Rockin' Zach said he wore it because it's the logo of one of his favorite bands, The Misfits. I guess Deadheads and Megadeth fans are out of luck at North Garland High, too.

As I recall, Hitler banned The Misfits from opening the Olympic Ceremony because they said the Youth programs were too soft. Way to go North Garland, be like Hitler!

Oh, and also remember if you attend North Garland High School, you clearly don't have to learn how to construct a proper sentence either. Have fun living the rest of your life on minimum wage zakk!

Actually is spelled with one c and you still couldn't afford me at $85,000 a year. Do us all a favor and go to school, pay attention to your teachers and open a book before the rest of us have to pay for your monthly welfare check or your bologna sandwiches in prison. Your parents should be sterilized.

Zakk, we indulged the language on your first comment because you appeared to be making a point as the subject of this story.

But in general, we're a bit more civil and don't allow gaming of the profanity filter.

Zakk wanted us to know that he makes a lot of money.

I'd be thrilled if we just let this thread fizzle out here.

Zakk obviously learned his spelling from his parents.

well it is a pretty lame rule. I have a sweet hoodie I just bought over New Years for like $12 in Chicago.

forgot to include the obviously pertinent information that said hoodie is decorated with numerous skulls, and that it hasn't tempted me to kill or even hurt anybody yet.

I have tons of Betsey Johnson gear that would be on the no-no list too but that's the really great thing about graduating high school and becoming an adult. You can wear whatever you want. When you are someone else’s responsibility, it’s an entirely different matter.

Pavel Lishin, says:

It does seem excessive to ban things like that, but I remember Megadeth shirts being banned at my school, too. Nobody really minded, not even the only kid who ever wore Megadeth shirts.

Schools have to err on the side of caution, I guess, not so much to protect the kids from gun-toting nuts as idiotic and sue-happy parents.
