Irving-based Fluor to build Polysilicon Plant in China
IRVING Fluor Corporation announced today that it was awarded a contract to provide front-end engineering and design (FEED) and engineering, procurement and construction-management (EPCM) services for a polysilicon plant for LDK Solar Co., Ltd. in Xinyu City, People’s Republic of China.
The total contract is in excess of $1 billion, with FEED work booked in third quarter 2007 and EPCM to be booked in 2008 upon full release.
“We’re honored that LDK Solar selected Fluor for this major project. Fluor maintains a strong presence in the polysilicon market, and this project is important to our continued strength in the industry, as well as our growing operations in China,” said David Seaton, president of Fluor’s Energy & Chemicals Group.
“With this new facility, LDK Solar will be able to meet the world’s growing demand for polysilicon. Fluor’s extensive knowledge of the polysilicon market as well as their track record of successfully designing and constructing world class facilities in China made it the ideal contractor for this project,” said Xiaofeng Peng, chairman and chief executive officer of LDK Solar.
