Dallas to host annual Mexican Independence Celebration at Pike Park September 15-16
DALLAS The City of Dallas is pleased to announce its participation in the 80th anniversary of "Diez y Seis" Mexican Independence Celebration at Pike Park on Saturday, September 15 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday, September 16 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The City of Dallas Park and Recreation Department as well as the Pike Park Advisory Council will be hosting the two-day event.
Since the 1930s city-owned Pike Park has been Dallas' traditional site for this celebration. The festival will feature delicious Mexican food and game booths, music, along with performances by ballet folklorico dancers, and local artists during the two-day event.
A "Diez y Seis" parade will begin on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Guadalupe Cathedral at 2215 Ross Avenue, followed by an official program starring City of Dallas officials and Mexican Consulate representatives.
Several City of Dallas departments will have booths or displays to focus on customer service, and representatives will provide info on city services, programs, and events in both English and Spanish. Sandra Morales, Pike Park Advisory Council president said, "We are very proud to celebrate our 80th anniversary this year. Our main goal is to provide $1,000 scholarships to deserving students. We invite everyone to participate in this family-oriented event, especially children, so that they may enjoy the cultural festivities and traditions left to us by our parents and grandparents." About 3,000 are expected; admission is free and open to the public.
