Memorial for Carter Albrecht draws 700 to church in Plano
PLANO The memorial for musician Carter Albrecht, who died on Monday from a gunshot in the head, drew almost 700 mourners including Edie Brickell and guitarist Charlie Sexton to the Parkway Hills Baptist Church in Plano.
Highlights of the service, which Mike Daniel at the DMN says ran 75 minutes long, included comments from Brickell and Danny Balis, who played with Albrecht in Sorta, a 25-minute photo montage of Albrecht, and an admission by the reverend on duty that he also originally moved to the Dallas area in 1974 to pursue music. Everybody's a rock star, even the preacher.

A terrible loss for all. From the DMN article on his death: Mourners got to hear four original pop tunes as well, most of which were to appear on a future solo album. The songs included "Jesus is Alive," a subtle acoustic song with gospel flourishes that showcased his smoky, warm and soul-encased voice.
"Jesus is alive and living in London," the song goes. "You go on and live and know that Carter had a message for you: that God is alive and living in London. Or Dallas. You reach across a bar to a sinner and tell them that it's all right," he told the crowd.

There's a saying I once heard that fits here; when someone has 'something about them' that otherwise is described as 'star power'. It goes, "Women wanted to be WITH him and men wanted to BE him." To those whose loss here is very personal, my condolence.
