Richland Hills mayor urges property owners to “seriously consider” gas lease offers
The mayor of Richland Hills, David Ragan, recently sent a letter (on city stationery, at city cost) to property owners encouraging them to "seriously consider" an offer made by potential gas lease operators Dale Property Services and Chesapeake Energy Corporation and then to "contact the company's representative," according to this report in the Star-Telegram.
Dale and Chesapeake (not to be confused with Dale and Chip) already own the rights to drilling on city property, which they acquired from Four Sevens Resources after that company bartered them away; they're now looking to "expand their reach" (i.e., "grab up more leases") by contracting with private land owners fortunate enough to be sitting atop the Barnett Shale.
Mayor Ragan stresses that his letter was intended more to inform residents about their options than to suggest that they actually sign with D&C. So they probably just misunderstood his meaning.
