Mean Green wideout Casey Fitzgerald has been named the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Fitzgerald, a junior from Red Oak, Texas, tallied 327 receiving yards and two touchdowns Saturday against Southern Methodist. He broke North Texas and Sun Belt records for most receiving yards in a game. His 18 catches also set a new Sun Belt Conference best for most receptions in a single game. Fitzgerald’s 327 yards was the fourth-most in NCAA Division I history for a single game. Combined with his 126 yards against Oklahoma, Fitzgerald leads the nation in receiving yards, averaging 226.5 per game.
After his 601-yard passing performance, Daniel Meager has also been honored. Meager, who broke a 38-year-old Mean Green record for passing yards in a game, was named player of the week for the Sun Belt Conference by Rivals.com. Meager also set a school record for most completions by a North Texas quarterback with 46.
