Dallas Latin Youth Orchestra performing Friday with Salsa legend Larry Harlow
DALLAS Latinos love our music. From the cradle to the cane, we sway, shuffle and salsa our way through life.
For a special group of young people, ages 13-20, Latin and Caribbean-inspired music is already their passion in life. Known as the Dallas Latin Youth Orchestra (DLYO)
The group was founded by Otis Gray, the founder and director of the Latin music program at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.
No goofing off in this group. If the students want to be a part of this orchestra, they have to be serious. After all, they're playing with the legends in the business.
Like tomorrow night's performance at the Latino Cultural Center with the Godfather of Salsa, Larry Harlow.
The DLYO isn't only performing with the padrino of salsa but will also provide the music for a show of salsa dancing.
The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and in true Latin style, the party doesn't end there.
There's an afterparty at the Mambo Cafe in downtown Dallas.
