Daiquiri Dump is closing
According to Mike Davis, Daiquiri Dump in Deep Ellum is closing.
He suggests that they may be another victim of the "SUP mess": a situation by which many previously "grandfathered" Deep Ellum bars are just now figuring out that they have to come into compliance with rigorous parking requirements.

I walk around the neighborhood, and I see a few names in all of the empty windows..
Barry Annino, Jeff Swaney, and Westdale.
Annino has been a mouthpiece for the death and decline of Deep Ellum since before I moved here, and yet his buildings sit empty. Why? Because he wants it all dead. You can read various quotes by him in the Observer about the causes.. He's part of the problem!
I've at least seen a few of Swaney's buildings get tenants.

There is some construction happening on one of the buildings at Malcolm X & Main. They've been working on the building for a few days now, putting in columns and new doors. I have no idea what's going in there.
And I was walking home for Pepes Y Mitos and saw ANOTHER tattoo shop is taking over one of the spaces on commerce st. I'm not sure if it's an existing shop or a brand new one..

Deep Ellum has a history long said and done. The 20's and 30's were friendly to and Blind Lemon Jefferson, Robert Johnson, & Leadbelly, to name a few familiar names. Gone, gone, gone is that day. The root of the issue is Dallas, it's direction and it's greed. STOP TEARING DOWN MY HISTORY!
