CARROLLTON On Sept. 18 at about 11:40 a.m., Carrollton City Hall was evacuated because a city employee noticed a suspicious black briefcase sitting next to a trash dumpster in a loading dock area. Although no specific threats had been received associated with the briefcase, precautionary measures were taken and city hall was evacuated. Additionally, North Josey Lane was closed to traffic until the scene was secured and deemed safe.
The Dallas Police Department Explosive Unit was requested to respond to the scene. The explosive unit arrived at the location and safely secured and detonated the case. Investigation revealed the case was empty. Traffic flow was established and city employees and visitors were allowed to return to the building once the area was found to be safe.
