Dallas Producers Association hosts “It Came From Dallas” (part three)

Subtitled "the films that drove drive-ins to extinction;" hosted by Gary Cogill and film historian Gordon K. Smith.

On Oct. 18 at 6:30 at the Studio Movie Grill in Addison, the Dallas Producers Association (DPA) will be putting on “The Bride of It Came From Dallas – 3rd Time’s the Charm,” highlighting films made in Dallas from 1970 - 1985.

By the time you get to the sub-header that reads "films that drove drive-ins to extinction," you should have caught on that the one-time only event has a distinctly lighthearted theme; the more serious back story is that donations collected at the door ($10 suggested) will benefit the DPA Film Incentive and Legislative Fund.

The agenda includes an edited-together reel of clips from films produced in Dallas during the time period 1970 - 1985. Represented will be scenes from Logan's Run (1976), The Lathe of Heaven (1979), Silent Rage (1982), Bloodsuckers from Outer Space (1984); Deadly Blessing (1980) and (BUM - Bum - bummm....) The Abomination.

Joining the evening's festivities from the last-mentioned feature will be the brother/sister production team of Kim Davis and Matt Devlen, founders and proprietors of the campy Muther Video label.

Emceeing will be local movie critic extraordinaire Gary Cogill, who'll benefit from the able assistance of film historian and archivist Gordon K. Smith - the gent responsible for putting together the evening's show reel.

In addition, DPA Film Pioneer Awards will be presented to Bill Stokes (posthumously) and Johnny Beasley.

Door prizes and a range of special guests are promised; should be both interesting and fun.

Kelly J Kitchens Wickersham, says:

Are you ready for a Dallas that DOESN'T take itself way too serious?? Then you need to be at Bride of It Came From Dallas!!

I have been the past 2 years. And rarely have I laughed so hard that no sound was coming out of me.

Hope to see you there! xo Kelly
