MCKINNEY – Elementary School in the McKinney Independent School District is celebrating Freedom Week during the week of Sept. 17 and will recognize two staff members at the school that recently acquired their U.S. Citizenship.
Senator Hutchinson before an American flag. Probably the ones she handed out were a little smaller than this one. Otherwise, I mean, Jesus, come on.
Constantin Gentea, a physical education teacher at Wolford Elementary and Mayra Montes, a custodian at the school will receive an American Flag from Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson in recognition of them receiving their citizenship. A presentation of the flags to the new citizens will take place at the school during a celebration scheduled to begin at 7:45 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20.
Gentea and his wife moved from Romania to the United States eight years ago and have two children. The family recently bought their home. Mr. Gentea received his citizenship March 10, 2005.
Montes, originally from Chihuahua, Mexico, has lived in the United States for 12 years. She and her husband just bought their first home and also have two children. Montes received her citizenship August 24, 2007.
Freedom Week was implemented by an act in the Texas Legislature designed to instruct children in public schools on the intent, meaning, and importance of the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution, including the Bill of Rights, in their historical context.
