DALLAS The Mansion on Turtle Creek has hired sommelier Michael Flynn as its new wine and beverage director; he'll begin September 24. Flynn is a three-time nominee for the James Beard Foundation’s Outstanding Wine Service Award, and has achieved an advanced diploma from the Court of Master Sommeliers.
Flynn will play a key role in the development of wine lists and beverage menus in the soon-to-debut redesigned Mansion Restaurant, Chef’s Room and Mansion Bar. He will be responsible for wine service, staff training, wine pairing menus and wine tasting events, and oversee the inventory in The Mansion’s wine cellar. On October 20, he'll lead TACA Highside Sommelier’s Court, a wine tasting during the weekend of events celebrating the debut of the redesigned restaurant and bar.
Flynn joins the Mansion from Kinkead’s in Washington, D.C., where he worked for 13 years and also oversaw the wine program of chef Bob Kinkead’s Virginia outpost, Colvin Run Tavern. Flynn was previously sommelier at The Occidental Grill and Le Pavillon.
Flynn has been described as Washington, D.C.’s "best known, best loved sommelier" by the Washingtonian and "one of America’s finest sommeliers" by the Wine Advocate. He is actively involved in associations in his field, such as the American Institute of Wine and Food, and he has been a featured contributor to publications, such as Sante and Wine Spectator. Flynn is a graduate of Middlebury College in Vermont, where he earned an undergraduate degree with honors in French. He is fluent in French and Spanish.
