UPDATED: Angelika Dallas hosts Chick Flicks film festival

Martini Madness kicks off event.

At 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4, the Angelika Film Center in Dallas will host the 6th annual Chick Flicks Film Festival. Showcased during the evening's program will be projects by women filmmakers from far and wide, with a focus on Texas-based talent.

Tickets are $10 (for non-members) or $8 (for Women in Film-Dallas members); proceeds from ticket sales (and filmmaker entry fees) benefit the WIF-Dallas scholarship foundation.

The lineup of films to be screened includes Room 10, Jennifer Aniston's directorial debut (working with co-creator Andrea Buchanan); Local Address, Global Access: Irving, Texas, by June Boniedot; Divas, by Anna Dewell-Bussart; Birth Pangs of a New..., but Liz Daggett; Mohsin & Husna, by Erin Davies; Wanda the Wonderful - the Trailer, by Carolyn Macartney; Hooker, by Jessica Schoenbaechler; Nowhere But Texas: Circus Town, by Linda Stogner; High Five, by Shirley Thompson and Tracy Claybrook; Fugue, by Marie Ullrich; and a scholarship-winning demo (?) created by Sharie Vance.

As a preliminary to the film screenings - designed, perhaps, to put everyone in the properly receptive frame of mind (and to allow for networking opportunities) - a "Martini Madness" get-together will be held at the Spike Global Grill right around the corner from the theater (we're talking: you could hurl an olive and hit the place from the lobby front door). This imbibement event begins at 6 p.m. and you'll need a $10 ticket to participate (unless you're already a Women In Film - Dallas member).

Following the screenings, celebrants will retrace their steps to Spike's (following the trail of olive pits) for the presentation of the Audience Choice, Jury and Student awards. Winning filmmakers will receive Budgeting and Scheduling software utilities from event sponsor Entertainment Partners. (Other sponsors include Post Asylum, 100.3 Jack FM, tapeonline.com, Peacock Press, the Dallas Film Commission and - of course - Spike Global Grill and the Angelika Film Center.)

Last year's Jury Award winner was Gay Venable for Heroes for Humanity: Trailblazing Texas Women; and the Student Award went to Kirby Stuart for Four Walls.
