ARLINGTON—The University of Texas at Arlington Library will host a GIS workshop called “Sleepin' at the Bowl: Best Locations for New Hotels for Superbowl XLV” from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27.

The purpose of the workshop is to demonstrate GIS technology. In this case, it will be used to identify the best location for the construction of a new hotel to help handle the influx of football fans after the new Dallas Cowboys stadium is completed. In this exercise, GIS will be used to analyze the number of hotels, rooms and occupancy rates in Arlington. Data sources will include hotel data from the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts and commercial property data from the Tarrant Appraisal District.

This hands-on workshop will be held in room B20 of the Central Library, 702 Planetarium Place. The lesson requires no GIS experience and is open to the public.

For more information, contact Joshua Been, GIS librarian and instructor, at (817) 272-5826, or been@uta.edu.
