Mesquite ISD tax rate drops 17 percent
During its meeting on September 10, the Mesquite ISD Board of Trustees approved the 2007 tax rate, which is 17 percent lower than the rate for 2006.
The total tax rate dropped by 29 cents per $100 of property valuation. In general, for the owner of an average Mesquite home valued at $106,000, this rate reduction translates to a savings of approximately $240 this year.
“Thanks to legislation passed earlier this year, the state will now shoulder a greater portion of the funding for the public schools, significantly relieving the burden on local taxpayers,” said Assistant Superintendent for Business Services Rick Koonce.
During its September 10, 2007, meeting, the Mesquite ISD Board of Trustees adopted a total tax rate of $1.3767 per $100 of property valuation for the 2007 tax year. This total rate equals $1.0067 for the purpose of maintenance and operations and 37 cents for the purpose of payment of principal and interest on debts.
