Fort Worth's only Hispanic theater company, Teatro de la Rosa, is back with its fifth season, opening this weekend with Conference of the Birds / Conferencia de los Pájaros. It will only run for two weekends, September 28 - October 7, playing on Fridays & Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:00 p.m.
The show is based on a poem written by Farid Uddi Attar in 1177 A.D. In the 1970s, the poem was adapted into a play by Peter Brook and John Carriere, which Brook took touring actors around the wilds of Africa before presenting two extremely successful productions to a Western audiences.
Teatro de la Rosa's production will take the story and set it against the Central American Mayan Ruins. With colorful bird masks and giant puppets in the Mayan tradition, this production will be a grand affair exploring the mysticism of seeking a higher power in any belief or religion. 10 actors and 4 puppeteers bring this tale to life with original masks and drumming.
The show is presented in English. Call 817-624-8333 for tickets or purchase online.
