DALLAS For almost 30 years, Dallas’ renowned Slocum Street has been a destination mecca for shoppers across the world in search of the perfect antiques and furnishings. On October 4th (6:00pm-10:00pm), The Slocum Street Antiques and Design Association presents it’s 9th annual Slocum Street Night Walk with “Slocum Street Style,” throwing open the doors of mostly “to the trade” showrooms for public browsing. Sponsored by D Home and benefiting the Dallas County Medical Society Alliance Foundation, Slocum Street Style is chaired by Gary Elam with honorary chairs AISD members Laura Lee Clark and Pat Ratcliff.
On this special evening, more than 33 showrooms throw open their doors to the treasures inside and give a once-a-year opportunity for the general public to have a sneak peek and enjoy fabulous food, spirits, and music. Proceeds from silent auctions at various showrooms benefit DCMSAF philanthropies. All Slocum Street Style guests will have the opportunity to win special prizes including gift certificate to be spent on Slocum Street.
“The merchants on this street look forward to the annual Slocum Street Style Night. It has become a signature event and it keeps getting bigger each year,” says Slocum Street Antiques and Design Associations president Brendan Bass.
Considered in the US to be a premier source of antiques and furnishings, Slocum Street dealers, some 40 showrooms, offer 500,000 square feet of design heaven. A treasure trove of everything from European antiques, oriental rugs, custom furniture, to stone furnishings, and other architectural items, floral design and accessories, interior designers enjoy one stop shopping.
Making a special guest appearance this year is noted design executive Carleton Varney, CEO of Dorothy Draper Company. Mr. Varney is in the process of remodeling the historic Stoneleigh Hotel, a platinum sponsor of Style Night along with Park Place Dealerships, Delivery Limited, and The Tower Residences at the Stoneleigh Hotel. Gold sponsors include: Baxter & Associates LLC, Heritage Auction Galleries and The Iron Bed.
The Dallas County Medical Society Alliance is a philanthropical organization of physician spouses dedicated to promoting good health and health education in the community. The Alliance supports a myriad of community organizations through fund raising including Edith Cavell Nursing Scholarships, The Science Place, immunization programs for underprivileged children as well as the preservation of their historic headquarters and home, The Aldredge House on Swiss Avenue.
With the street closed to vehicle traffic for the evening of October 4, guests can enjoy a casual stroll or catch one of the Slocum Style trolleys to move to the next shop. Complimentary valet parking is available at the entrance to Slocum Street at Hi Line Drive. This event is free an open to the public.
Slocum Street Style Night is partnered with D Home Magazine and media sponsor People Newspapers. The 6-year-old bimonthly is the first regional home and garden magazine to win the Gold Medal for General Excellence from the City and Regional Magazine Association.
