Local officials gathered to celebrate the grand opening of The Shops at Highland Village on Thursday night with a Texas style rope cutting.
Opening weekend events include horse-drawn carriage rides, real cowboys, live music, school group performances, strolling performers, book signings, entertainer Eddie Coker, and a $5,000 shopping spree giveaway.
The Shops at Highland Village features a Barnes and Noble bookstore, along with 51 other shops and restaurants.
"We’ve been warmly welcomed to the community and this is a real opportunity to show our gratitude. We look forward to hosting our neighbors and introducing them to The Shops at Highland Village," said Ernie Kennedy, Regency Centers Senior Manager of Investments.
At least 33 of the 52 stores and restaurants have opened their doors.
Area residents can visit Texas Roast in the new center and pick up a copy of The Cross Timbers Gazette while enjoying fresh roasted coffee.
The Shops at Highland Village is located at the northwest corner of FM 407 and FM 2499.

West Fest Polka Festival Westfest kicks off the weekend Friday evening with the Miss Westfest Contest. Gates to the fairground (in West, Texas, south on I-35 just beyond Hillsboro) open at 5:30 p.m., and you can hang out touring the food booths until the 12:30 a.m. closing. If there was ever a place to do your "wurst," this is it. And don't forget kolaches for dessert. More info
