Dallas Baptist soccer drops squeaker to St. Mary’s
The Lady Patriot Soccer Team lost 4-3 to St. Mary's University on Thursday afternoon to kick off conference play for DBU. With the tough loss, DBU fell to 2-5 overall and 0-1 in conference, while STMU improved to 7-3 and 2-1.
DBU raced out to an early 2-0 lead when Senior Courtney Schneidau scored the first goal of the game, only to be followed up by fellow Senior Mandy Gomez, who scored her first goal of the year.
The Patriots, who are playing with a short bench this year due to injury, started wearing down on the hot, muggy afternoon. St. Mary's took full advantage of this and scored two quick unanswered goals to tie the score.
Gomez mustered up enough energy in the 66th minute to score her second goal of the game, which gave the Lady Patriots a 3-2 lead heading into the final minutes of the match. St. Mary's on the attack kept up the pressure and scored two more unanswered goals, including the game winning goal in the 86th minute.
The Lady Patriots will look to rebound from the tough loss on Saturday afternoon, at 4:00, when they welcome St. Edward's University for a Heartland Conference match.
