Dallas Baptist Volleyball beats St. Mary’s in three sets
The Lady Patriot Volleyball Team took on St. Mary’s University in a Heartland Conference match up on Thursday night. DBU came out clicking on all cylinders and defeated the Rattlers in four games. With the victory, DBU improved to 6-7 overall and 2-3 in conference play, while STMU fell to 8-9 and 3-2.
DBU won the first game in convincing manner when they defeated STMU, 30-17. St. Mary’s answered back in the second game when they overran the Patriots with a 30-22 victory. The Patriots were not able to make a run in the second game to cut the lead, which allowed the Rattlers to push their lead to eight.
The Lady Patriots regained the momentum in the third game after they scored six unanswered points to take a five-point lead. DBU never looked back and finished off the Rattlers, 30-24, to take a 2-1 lead heading into game four.
DBU ran away with the match in game four when they took a commanding 26-14 lead and finished off the Rattlers for the victory.
Leading DBU to victory was Sophomore Vickie Mundell, who recorded her first triple-double of her career. Mundell ended up with 11 kills, 41 assists, and 10 digs, while Junior Lauren Secord had 17 kills and four blocks.
The back row played a huge part in the victory, with five Patriots having 10 or more digs, including Sophomore Erin Black, with 20, Sophomore Amanda Emmert, with 12, Junior Michelle Villarreal, with 12, and Senior Elizabeth Stoo, with 13.
DBU will look to even up their overall and conference record on Saturday when they welcome the University of the Incarnate Word to the Burg Center , for a 2:00 match.
