Ingraham didn't have it quite as tough as Clint Eastwood at Alcatraz.
Mustang swimmer Colton Ingraham competed in and won the 12th annual Alcatraz Invitational Swim on September 15, 2007. Ingraham was first in a field of 342 competitors in the wetsuit division.
Ingraham, a junior, finished the open water course between Alcatraz Island and mainland San Francisco in 25:48.2, almost a full minute ahead of his nearest competitor. The course length is between 1.25 miles and 1.75 miles, depending on the currents. The water conditions this year were slightly more favorable than in previous years, according to the organizers of the event, with the water temperature hovering around 63 degrees.
A total of 519 swimmers finished the course, some competing in wet suits, some opting for less coverage. The event attracted 339 men and 180 women and $50 of each swimmer's entry fee benefited the Friends of Recreation and Parks fund, part of the San Francisco Parks Trust.
The Mustangs kick off their fall schedule Oct. 18 with an intrasquad meet, followed by their first competition of the season on Oct. 27, when SMU plays host to Centenary College at 1:00 p.m.
