DALLAS Former city councilman James Fantroy says he's rejecting a deal offered by the FBI to stay out of jail in the FBI's looming investigation into corruption charges within Dallas City Hall. CBS 11 broke a story last Wednesday saying that indictments could be announced as early as Monday.
Fantroy, who is said to be indicted already, says he'd rather face a jury on charges of embezzlement, money laundering, tax evasion, and bribery than make a deal.
The FBI contends that he embezzled $50,000 that disappeared when he was treasurer of the Paul Quinn College Community Development Corp., which was purportedly redeveloping rundown shopping centers and creating affordable housing; checks with his signature were written to family members. Here comes Fantroy's quote:
"I haven't taken no money and I haven't laundered no money."
