Former Dallas Cowboy Chad Hennings loses workers compensation claim

A workers' comp claim filed by former Dallas Cowboy/defensive lineman Chad Hennings was denied by the 10th Court of Appeals in Waco. A majority decision ruled against his receiving compensation because he accepted benefits under his contract or collective bargaining agreement; the court cited Texas Labor Code ยง406.095, requiring professional athletes to choose the benefits available under their contracts or the workers' comp system. Hennings suffered a spine injury that ended his career in 2000; he was the only NFL player to have served in the Gulf War and does motivational speaking now, although his Web site has the music turned up way too loud.
