The Texas Rangers played well but were unable to overcome a ninth-inning bullpen collapse Friday night, losing to the Mariners 6-4 in Seattle. Mariners rookie Jeff Clement hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to win it for the Mariners, and was subsequently --and awkwardly-- chased around the bases by teammate Yuniesky Betancourt.
Rangers starter Edison Vólquez again pitched well, giving up just three runs in just over five innings, and may have earned himself a spot in the rotation next spring.
Most of the Rangers' offense came from the bottom of the lineup, with Jarrod Saltalamacchia going 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and #9 hitter Travis Metcalf going 3-for-4 with a two-run home run in the fifth inning.
