FBI searching for DFW “Scarecrow Bandits”

After two more daring heists authorities think the “Scarecrow Bandits” are responsible for, the FBI is now offering $90,000 for information leading to their capture.

The FBI announced the increased reward yesterday. Agents believe the five or six member group robbed Dallas’ Century Bank Friday and only three hours later, struck the State Bank of Texas in Garland.

The “Scarecrows,” so named because they wear floppy hats and loose clothing during their crimes, have committed at least 20 robberies throughout North Texas. That includes the February robbery of DeSoto’s Comerica Bank. In that heist the group followed its typical pattern, some vaulting over the bank counter with the remaining members controlling the lobby area.

They began with two or three bandits but authorities say the group has now expanded to possibly as many as six members. They have attacked bank employees in some of their crimes. Anyone with information should call the Dallas FBI office at 972-559-5000.

I wonder if all the money will be recovered, or whether it was all buried under the big T.
