Odessa Roughnecks 47, Frisco Thunder 46

— Sam Griffin’s 15-yard touchdown from Tony Colston as time expired lifted the Odessa Roughnecks to a 47-46 victory over the Frisco Thunder in an Intense Football League game Sunday afternoon at the DeJa Blue Arena in the Dr Pepper Star Center.

Both of Frisco’s losses have come on touchdowns in the final seven seconds.

Odessa (1-2) went on a 21-0 run to take a 41-36 on a Colston 23-yarder to Grifin with 9:17 left. Frisco (4-2) answered with Wes Cooper’s 5-yarder to Guy Fernandez to make it 43-41 with 7:37 left, then made two defensive stops and added a Dennis Hopovac field goals with 37 seconds for a 46-41 lead.

Colston finished with 283 yards and six touchdown passes – three to Griffin (7 catches for 100 yards) and two to Don Robinson (7-131). Jimmy Connor (4-47) added one touchdown catch.

Frisco saw leads of 14-0 and 37-21 fade.

Cooper finished 24 of 45 for 268 yards and five touchdowns – two each to Jason Deml (8-109) and Fernandez (5-54). Richard Morris had 11 catches for 105 yards and one touchdown, while Ricky Madison rushed for a score.

Deml was named Thunder offensive MVP, Nathan Jackson the Randy White Hall of Fall BBQ defensive MVP and Kevin Lenford the Coach Joe’s Sports Grille Special Teams MVP.

Frisco concludes its 2008 home schedule next Sunday at 7:30 p.m. against the Corpus Christi Hammerheads.
