UTD to host Border Patrol job fair
Looking for a job in federal law enforcement? Unlike the employment situation in other sectors of the economy, your prospects couldn't be rosier, thanks in part to President Bush's May 2006 announcement of his initiative to increase border security. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), of which the Border Patrol is a part, falls under the umbrella of those fine folks at the Department of Homeland Security.
On Wed., April 9, the U.S. Border Patrol's Laredo Sector Chief, Carlos Carrillo, will visit the campus of the University of Texas at Dallas as part of a recruiting tour for his agency. The plans are to hire 6,000 new border patrol agents over the next two years, which will amount to a doubling in the size of the agency since 2001.
Chief Carrillo will speak in the TI Auditorium from 11:15 'til noon, while the job fair itself will run from 9:30 - 12:30.
The event is sponsored by the Criminology Program and Alpha Phi Sigma in the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences.
UTD Assistant Professor Denise Boots shares her feelings about the Border Patrol Academy, which she attended: "Border Patrol’s excellence and top-notch training has given me the confidence to become a better professor and citizen. It’s helped me in every facet of my life personally and professionally.”
Plus, she brushes her teeth on a regular basis, which - sadly - can't be said for everyone.
