Fort Worth’s Sundance Square launches “Walking Guy” ad campaign

Sundance Square, downtown Fort Worth’s premier entertainment and retail district, recently launched a new ad campaign to promote its pedestrian-friendly environment.

“Spring is an ideal time to stroll along our tree-lined streets or enjoy lunch at a sidewalk café,” said Tracy Gilmour, Sundance Square director of marketing. “The Walking Guy communicates one of Sundance Square’s best assets: the perfect environment to walk between shops, theatres and entertainment venues. Whether getting out of the office for a lunch break, or dinner and an evening out, people enjoy walking throughout our unique downtown area.”

Copy for the initial ad states, “Hi there, I’m the Walking Guy. You’ve probably never heard of me, but you’ve definitely seen me before. I’m the guy on the traffic signals downtown. When the light turns green, that’s me…walking. As you might expect, I’ve walked in cities all over the world. But I’ve decided to settle down in Sundance Square. Just about anything I could want is only a few steps away! So maybe I’ll see you around. Until then, keep on walking.”

Ads are scheduled to run in “Southern Living,” “Panache,” “Indulge,” “Downtown Fort Worth;” “Fort Worth Star-Telegram,” and Bass Hall and Fort Worth Symphony programs.

The “Walking Guy” campaign was created by Tracy Gilmour, director of marketing; Brian Pierce, writer/creative director; Jimmy Mowry, art director; J.W Burkey, photographer; and Carrie Cook, illustrator.

There are also plans for a fun, online blog where Walking Guy will talk about all the great things to do in Sundance Square, the health benefits of walking, how to reduce your carbon footprint, etc.

Located in the heart of downtown Fort Worth, historic Sundance Square is a 35-block commercial, residential, entertainment and retail district where people work, live, shop and dine. Sundance Square’s beautiful landscaping, redbrick streets and turn-of-the-century buildings make it a pedestrian’s delight.

Brody, says:

I've photographed/filmed in locations from L.A. to New York, and what's so nice about Downtown Fort Worth is the diversity of architecture, as well as the fact that the police and security generally leave you alone as long as you aren't interfering with anything. As far as safety goes, I spoke with a mounted police officer once who said that Downtown Fort Worth was the only downtown area he'd want his mother walking around in.
