New computer screws up Dallas Water Utilities billing system
The fancy new computer system for Dallas Water Utilities is having some problems. The downside: Anywhere from 15,000 to 26,000 customers have been double-billed. The upside: It gave DMN reporter Dave Levinthal the chance to use a water pun in his lede! To wit:
"A new $30 million computer system has thousands of Dallas Water Utilities customers awash in problems, ranging from erroneous charges to trouble logging into the city's online payment service."
Awash! High-five to Dave. Would have liked to see a follow-up "water-logged" or "drenched" but he refrained. "Awash" is all we got.
The new computer system, which Dave sez cost $30 million, went live in February. Aside from the irritation and time waste of getting double-billed, watchful City Council member Mitch Rasansky points out that it's also a big waste of money on postage, paper, and so on.
