With the tragic death of DeSoto boy Jonathon Potts still fresh in the memories of Best Southwest residents, Lancaster police are investigating another apparent case of fatal child abuse.

On Monday at approximately 1:19 p.m. paramedics responded to the 900 block of Riverbend on an unconscious person call. While en route, officers and paramedics learned that the unconscious person was a one-year-old. Lancaster Police are automatically dispatched when there is a child involved.

Officers observed an unresponsive infant and administered CPR until paramedics arrived and transported the infant to Charlton Methodist Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The child was in the care of a family friend and had visible physical injuries, prompting police to open an investigation.

Detectives arrested Andrew Dion Ingram, 19, of Lancaster, Tuesday and took him to DeSoto’s Tri-City Jail. Ingram stands charged with capital murder, because the child was under 6 years old. If convicted this charge carries a sentence of either life in prison or the death penalty.
