Four Dallas ISD elementary schools in March received a total of $28,000 from California-based Jamba Juice Company to support campus fitness programs, gyms or playgrounds.

To earn the award, students in grades three through five at John Neely Bryan, Anson Jones, Ben Milam, and Oran M. Roberts elementary schools participated in a two-week physical education program in which the students at those schools counted their steps and matched them with those of the company’s employees nationwide.

The idea was to encourage students and Jamba Juice employees to become more physically active and to reduce their risks for potentially serious health problems.

Results of the competition were announced at the end of Jamba Juice's annual Brand Conference, held this year in Grapevine. Grants were awarded to Ben Milam Elementary School for first place - $10,000; Oran M. Roberts Elementary School for second place - $8,000; Anson Jones Elementary School for third place - $6,000; and John Neely Bryan Elementary School for fourth place - $4,000.

The value of the company’s partnerships with the Dallas ISD, including cash awards, refreshments for students, pedometers, and booklets, was $35,000.
